Fake online gaming site promises to double your money — then disappears with it

Scammers build fake gaming websites that promise to double or triple your deposit. A call centre recruits victims via social media or cold calls. Small early payouts build trust; then larger deposits vanish and withdrawals are blocked.

Also known as: fake gaming website investment scam, online gaming double money fraud, gaming investment platform scam, fake casino investment fraud

What to do right now

  1. 1 Never deposit money on a gaming or investment platform recruited through an unsolicited call or social media message
  2. 2 Verify any gaming platform's legal registration and license before depositing — legitimate platforms are transparent about their licensing
  3. 3 If you have already deposited and withdrawals are blocked, stop sending any more money — additional 'fees' are second-layer theft
  4. 4 Document everything: screenshots of the platform, chat logs, transaction records, phone numbers used to contact you
  5. 5 File a complaint with your bank's fraud helpline immediately to attempt a reversal or hold on outgoing transactions
  6. 6 Report at https://cybercrime.gov.in or call 1930 (national cyber helpline).

Red flags

  • Any website or app that promises to 'double' or 'triple' your money through gaming is fraudulent — no legitimate gambling or gaming platform guarantees returns
  • You are recruited via a cold call or social media message, not through an app store or established gaming platform
  • Early small payments (₹500–₹2,000) are made to build confidence before larger deposits are solicited
  • The platform is not licensed by any government authority — real-money games must comply with state gaming laws
  • Withdrawals are blocked, delayed, or require payment of a 'GST fee' or 'processing charge' before release
  • The website or app disappears or becomes unresponsive after you deposit a large amount

Known variants

  • Fake IPO via gaming app (August 2026): social media ads promise stock market guidance and high IPO returns. Victims join a WhatsApp trading group, then deposit via a gaming app. A fake dashboard shows profits but withdrawals are blocked pending 'TDS' payment. UP STF linked 3,087 NCRP complaints (₹2,934 crore); mastermind arrested Nagpur July 2026.
